Elise's First Snow

Jeremy Update:

Today is a tough day to do an update. Jeremy's ICP levels were climbing constantly today and they were having to intervene to get them down to manageable levels. In the evening his ICP was in the 30's and there was a flurry of action to help get it back into an acceptable range. Since visitors aren't allowed between 6 and 9pm we don't know what's going on right now. We are hopeful he will pull through the night and things will be better tomorrow. On to the post I wrote last week about Elise's first snow...

Monday morning, December 28th, we woke up to rain and sleet. It had rained basically all weekend and our backyard was flooded. Carter and Elise were both posted up by our large window in the living room watching water run through our yard and rain come down. There was a frozen layer of water along the ground. It was cute to watch because Elise crawled over and pulled up to her knees beside Carter who looked at her and said, "Do you see that sissy?!?" while pointing at the water rushing through our backyard. We had a relaxing morning hanging around in the house in our jammies and cleaning up the post-Christmas mess that still lingered. Then I looked out the window again right before Elise's naptime and saw snow! I was so excited and Carter immediately wanted to go outside. I put Elise down for her nap and then Carter and I went outside to tromp around in the snow. He made snow angels and wanted to make a snowman so I made a miniature one that he quickly ran past and kicked over. We were having a blast until he decided to play in the giant accumulation of water in the middle of the yard and fell over, getting his face and entire front side wet.

The whole time Elise was asleep I was so excited thinking about taking her outside when she woke up. I couldn't wait to see how she reacted to experiencing snow for the first time! When she woke up we quickly suited back up and headed out. This time we went with the front yard hoping it was less slushy since we didn't have so much water up there. Unfortunately it was still pretty wet! It was so cute to see Elise squint up at the snow while watching it fall down. Then she reached down and started rubbing her hand in the snow to feel it, thankfully she was wearing mittens! Not surprisingly her next move was to try to eat snow. She would reach her hand down, get snow on her mitten, and then dive bomb her mitten with her mouth. I was cracking up! She seemed to enjoy the snow and watching Carter. Then she wanted to crawl and really couldn't make much ground in her snow suit which seemed to frustrate her a little bit, but she didn't cry. Carter wanted me to make snow balls and throw them at him but it was so wet I didn't want to hit him with them. Instead I threw them at the side of the house. Elise watched and laughed each time a snowball hit the house. When her cheeks started to get red from the cold we went inside and Carter was proud to say Elise watched him make tracks in the snow.  It was so much fun. I love all the firsts that come with the first year of life! Read about Carter's first snow here.

Of course, she had to eat some snow!
