A Playdate with Hayden

Erin and Hayden came over to visit Sunday evening and invited us to come over to their house on Monday to try out Hayden's new playset in the backyard.  I was so excited and couldn't wait to get the boys together.  I even put Carter down for his nap a little early at 11:30 in hopes that he'd wake up earlier and we could get over there sooner.  He had woken up at 6:30 am and was quite tired so he went right down for his nap.  It's almost like he knew I was anxiously waiting for him to wake up because he slept for almost 3 hours!  I packed a snack for the car, changed his diaper, said goodbye to everyone, and rushed off.

Hayden was so excited to show us his play set when we got there, but Carter was too intrigued with all the new toys in the house.  It took us a while to get outside and then took a while to get over to the playset.  They both got distracted playing int the garage, chasing each other, and screeching as they ran.  Then they got distracted by dirt piles created by moles in the yard.  Once they finally made it to the playset they absolutely loved it.  One of the neatest features of the playset was that the bottom part had a door and windows that resembled a little house.  Carter and Hayden had a blast playing in it, opening and closing the door, and playing peek-a-boo with us through the windows.  It was adorable and they did a great job taking turns as well as working together to open the door.

Of course he had to try what Hayden had done.

Both Carter and Hayden were sweating so we headed back inside to get drinks and play for a bit.  Hayden was sitting up in a tall bar stool to drink so Carter had to sit in one next to him.  He fussed and attempted to climb up the stool until I helped him up.  They are both at an age where they don't understand sharing so I was impressed with how well they did.  Hayden was sitting on his alphabet train toy and there was some room behind him so I asked him if Carter could get on it with him.  He said "sure" so I put Carter on the back.  The only problem was that Carter started trying to push Hayden off, even lifting his shirt up.  Hayden looked at me and said, "I want Carter off."  I agreed that Carter wasn't being nice and lifted him off.  Carter didn't fuss at all and instead decided to walk along behind the train and push Hayden to help him as he went.  It was precious and Hayden didn't mind at all.  I was afraid he wouldn't want the help as independent as he is, but he went along with it.  Erin pulled the two pieces apart so Hayden could walk with the train part with handles and Carter could ride on the seat.  Carter tried his best but really struggled since there were no handles for him to hold onto.  It was quite comical to see.

Some of the pushing action.

We headed back outside for a little bit before we left and both boys decided it would be fun to dig in the dirt.  It was so cute to see them walk along together while Hayden looked for a stick.  Then he let me break it in half so Carter could have a stick too.  They were very content to sit in the dirt and dig with their sticks.  Sometimes I wonder why we even bother with all the special toys!  :)  Everybody was getting tired and hungry so as much as I hated ending our trip, we headed out.  It is so much fun to see Hayden and Carter grow and play together.  Each time they see each other they interact more and enjoy each other even more.  Check out some of their other playdates here, here, here, and here.

  1. So sweet-I love it when kids copy the other kids around them! That is nice they are close in age together! I didn't realize Erin lived that close to you, that is nice!

    1. She lives about 30 minutes away from my parents' house. We're staying with them while Ty's out of town. She's only about 2 hours away from our house too, so not bad!
