Fifth Disease

Not totally cleared up, but he's looking MUCH better!
Today when I picked Carter up from daycare there was a note in his cubby about fifth disease.  After reading over the note and looking at some pictures online, I'm fairly certain it's what he has.  Apparently it has been spreading like wildfire at his daycare.  I'm sure it's due to the fact that the contagious period normally has no symptoms.   Looking on the positive side, once you have it you are normally immune to it in the future.  Thankfully this should be Carter's only experience with it!
Carter's class has been really small these past couple weeks.  It's just been him and one or two other kids each day.  His teacher said they've all been sick too, but have had it much worse.  Carter's temp never got above 100.  The other babies have been in the 103-104 range.  She mentioned that Carter has had a much milder version than the other children.  He is also the only breastfed baby.  I couldn't help but think that breastfeeding has led to a better immune system and therefore a less sick and happier baby.  That definitely makes pumping 3 times a day even more worth it.  Pumping at nighttime is the worst.  Sitting around pumping for 30 minutes when all I really want to do is go to bed gets old, but it has to be done.  It sure is nice to see some positive results!
Ty came home early tonight and got to play with us for a while before mowing the lawn.

  1. I thought of fifths disease too, when I saw some of his pictures, but his cheeks didn't quite look like it. They also call it slap cheek fever because that's what the cheeks look like. Do you remember having it? You were tired and had red cheeks and once when we got home you walked over to the pile of stuffed animals and laid down in them and went to sleep. You guys didn't have the rash all over like he did. Thank heavens you had it, it's horrible for adults. I got it from you guys, and my joints ached for a long time, and my rash would move from place to place and my face and hands would swell.

  2. Mary Kay had it and went to the emergency room, because she couldn't get out of bed. That's when it was going around Lakeside.
