A Gift in Disguise

Yesterday I was feeling a bit down.  I was working hard to be positive and be in good spirits but it was difficult not only due to our situation but also because I got about 5 hours of sleep on top of that.  When my alarm went off in the morning I laid in bed contemplating calling in sick.  Then I remembered my co-teacher had a substitute for a doctor's appointment.  I'm sure you can imagine, 47 students with 2 substitutes is a recipe for disaster, so I pulled my sorry butt out of bed and got ready for work.

Half-way through the day I got a phone call from Carter's daycare that he was running a temperature and I needed to come pick him up.  Initially I was stressed trying to put together plans for the rest of the day and knowing there would be 2 substitutes in our classroom, but it turned out being with Carter was exactly what I needed.  The moment I had him in my arms I felt my mood begin to shift.  Pressing his body into my chest helped me feel whole again.
Nothing like this little guy to make your day brighter!

This morning Carter was still running a low-grade temperature and woke up miserable so I decided to keep him home to rest up and feel better.  I ended up taking him to the doctor just to make sure he didn't have an ear infection and thankfully he didn't.  All day long I felt my mood slowly changing.  The slight depression I'd been feeling deep down for days began to lift.  By the afternoon I was feeling hopeful.  It was a beautiful 70 degrees and Carter was feeling much better so we went to the park to play and meet daddy for a run.  The Vitamin D therapy along with spending all day with Carter was exactly what I needed!

Carter had crazy hair when he woke up from his nap!
Ready to play outside!

Come on, mommy, let's go!
Carter spent much of the day walking around.  At one point I was in the hallway checking the thermostat while Carter was in the living room.  Then he came hauling down the hallway walking past me!  Ty and I switched cars this week so Ty took all of the CD's out of my car and brought them inside.  Carter had a blast throwing them all on the floor.  He also enjoyed riding his car outside.  When we were at the park the wind started to cool off so I put his tiger jacket on him.  I told him he was wearing a tiger jacket and roared at him.  He started walking around roaring while he played.  I was cracking up!  I just have to work tomorrow and then all of next week is Spring Break.  I'm sure I will continue to feel better a little bit at a time, especially with the extra days home with Carter.

Roaring at the park.

  1. Sitting on the fireplace he looks like a philosopher. And all I could think when he was on the slide was I hope his little legs don't get too much sun. haha They must have looked white to me.

    1. They are extremely white. I sat and contemplated for a while whether to bust out the sunscreen or not.
