Wordless Wednesday

Jeremy Update:

Today Jeremy received Occupational Therapy (OT) as well as Physical Therapy (PT). During OT the therapist had him practice washing his face, brushing his teeth, and writing his name. The therapist would hold Jeremy's hand and move it in order to get him to do those things. One time the therapist asked Jeremy to wash his face and Jeremy started to move his hand toward his face. PT for the day was sitting in a chair along with the range of motion activities we have been doing with him. He seems to be making tiny little steps forward each day. Yesterday when I was visiting Jeremy kept looking over at the bed rail and reaching for it. Today while Thomas was there Jeremy actually reached over and grabbed a hold of it. Last night dad asked Jeremy a question and he shook his head yes. He's still not responding to commands much. He will look at you when you ask him to, but I'm not sure if that is because he hears your voice or because you asked. He's squeezed my mom's hand on command, but I've never been able to get him to do it for me. Today my parents received an informational booklet about traumatic brain injury (TBI). In the booklet there was a scale called The Rancho Los Amigos Scale which is used to explain behavioral, cognitive, and emotional changes that take place during healing. There are 10 levels of healing and Jeremy is now in level 3: localized response. Level 1 is no response and level 2 is generalized response. On one hand it is daunting to see how far we have to go, but on the other hand it is reassuring he has progressed so much in just a month. If only he could move up 2-3 levels each month! The booklet does share that some patients pass through all levels, some skip levels, and some stop on a level and don't progress any further. I'm hopeful Jeremy will be able to progress through to level 10. Now on to Wordless Wednesday...
