Elise's 5th Birthday

The original plan for Elise's birthday was her birthday party at Skyzone on March 14th and then a little spring break trip to Wichita the weekend after spring break to spend the night at a hotel on Friday and Saturday evening. Elise got the flu on the 12th so we postponed her party a week. Then as things got worse with the coronavirus we decided it wasn't a good idea to have her party so we postponed again until the end of May. We also decided a trip wasn't a good idea so we cancelled our trip. Since everything got all messed up and we couldn't really leave the house, we told Elise her birthday was a yes day. That meant anything within reason that she asked to do, we would say yes.

When Elise woke up, she came out of her room inside her shark blanket with her feet down inside the fins. It was adorable to see her hop walking along inside her blanket. We greeted her with a Peep with a candle in it. A fun tradition Ty's Aunt Netta told us about with a marshmallow. Last year we had some Peeps and used one. Elise liked it so much, she remembered it and talked about it in the lead-up to her birthday. We sang her Happy Birthday and she smiled the whole time. Her first request was to have waffles with Nutella for breakfast. We didn't have any Nutella so she settled for whipped cream and sprinkles. After breakfast she opened her presents from us. We didn't get her very many presents because her party expense. They were all just small things I'd picked up throughout the year, mostly stuff on sale after holidays. It wasn't until she opened her presents that I realized it was mostly Frozen II stuff. She was pleased with it all but the best thing for her is still opening the presents. Overnight Jeremy dropped a present off for her on the porch. When she was done opening the presents from us, we took her to the porch to find her surprise. She was still inside her shark blanket and was getting used to her yes day so she looked at Carter and said, "Open the door for me." He was happy to oblige. She was thrilled with her present from Jeremy. Immediately upon opening her Scruff a Love she had to give it a bath.

Putting on some make up.
Carter wanted to try out some lipstick.

After opening presents and playing with them for a while, I brought out Elise's birthday shirt for her to paint. I remembered the night before about it and realized I'd totally forgotten to have her paint it with everything that's going on. When it was finished Elise asked for some tablet time. She was so thrilled when we said yes. Even knowing it was a yes day, it seemed like it took her by surprise. I wanted to go ahead and get some pictures of her even though her shirt wasn't ready yet. I figured we'd go ahead and get some in her dress now and then get some in her shirt later when the paint was dry. The day before our neighbor called to talk to us and told Elise she had a birthday present for her and would drop it off on the porch the following day. All morning Elise would randomly get up and go check the porch. Ty and I were cracking up because she was playing on her tablet and just stood up and walked off while carrying her tablet. I went to go check on her and she was peeking out the door to see if her present was on the porch.

After some time on her tablet, she wanted to go play outside and watch for Carol to bring her present. When we got outside she wanted me to play chase and try to catch them which was fun. Ty said she was playing it pretty smart because she'd run away from me screaming in the area between our house and Carol's house. He said, "Carol for sure knows we are awake now." While we were playing outside we got a video call from Uncle Paul, Aunt Amanda, Wyatt, and Kinley. They told Elise Happy Birthday. During our conversation Amanda read us a book Elise wrote for Wyatt back in October. It's now his favorite book to read before bed. I was cracking up over the story, it was so funny! I forgot about when she said "crikey," all the time. After playing outside some more Elise asked for Easy Mac for lunch. The answer was yes! Again, she was thrilled. Then she asked if she could watch a movie while eating lunch and was over the moon when the answer was yes! She ate all of her mac and cheese, vegetables, and fruit and asked for more mac and cheese. Ty started to say no and I gave him a look and we both said yes. Elise went hopping back to Carter so she could tell him she got another Easy Mac.
Tesla ready to party!
After lunch and a movie we went back outside. We got a package from Amazon which was some spray chalk we ordered for Elise once we realized her party wasn't going to happen. She had a blast with it. While they were playing outside I took off for a run. My parents were on their way to drop off birthday cookies for Elise. They originally planned to just drop them off on the porch but then we talked about them coming through the gate to the backyard to talk to her through the large window in the living room. Eventually we decided we'd all be outside and stay at least 6 feet away from each other so they could spend some time with Elise on her birthday. They arrived right as I was finishing my run. They both wore masks to be on the safe side and Elise was so cute, putting a glove on to go over and touch them. She was thrilled she actually got to see them. They didn't stay too long because they were hoping to make it home without having to use the restroom at our house or a gas station to minimize touching things. At some point while I was gone running Ty and the kids started an apple pie for Elise's birthday. Ty went in to finish it after my parents left but the kids wanted to stay outside to play some more so we did. They got all muddy. Then they wanted to paint rocks my parents brought for them. I initially said not right now instead of no and then Elise just kept looking at me so I said yes. I probably shouldn't have because I was trying to work on stuff and didn't pay enough attention. Even with paint smocks on they both got paint on new clothes. Luckily Elise's material was different so it didn't dry completely and I was able to scrub it out. Carter's was pants and it dried a lot faster so I scrubbed them but it didn't come out. Both kids had to take a bath. Elise even had paint in her hair!
Playing with the spray chalk.

When we were getting jammies on after baths Thomas stopped by with Elise's birthday presents. He got her a large Lego set and Elise looked at Carter and said, "You can help me with this!" He also got her a box full of bath paints which came in super handy the following week when the kids got muddy playing outside pretty much every day and had to take lots of baths! Thomas stood in the yard and talked to us while we were on the porch. It was nice to see him even if it had to be from a distance. When we came inside it was time for dinner and Elise wanted... wait for it... mac and cheese! She was giddy with excitement that she got mac and cheese again. It may have been her first time eating mac and cheese for lunch and dinner which is a perfect day in her mind. I told Elise the story of the day she was born which led to watching a bunch of videos of Elise as a baby. Then we read books and Facetimed Gma and Gpa before heading for bed. I could tell Elise was a little sad for her yes day to be over and the next morning she was a little disappointed the power of her requests had diminished. It was definitely a wonderful day. Since we couldn't go anywhere it was really chill, but I loved it and so did Elise! Read about her 4th birthday here, her 3rd birthday here, her 2nd birthday here, and her 1st birthday here.
