A Perfect Saturday

Saturday morning Carter woke up early and came into our room, crawling in bed between us. It was so nice having Elise in the Pack n Play on one side and both my boys on the other. When Carter decided it was time for breakfast Ty got up with him and let me go back to sleep for a bit since I'd been up multiple times during the night with Elise. She woke up to eat again around 8:00 and I got up for the day after nursing her. I planned to get a 6 mile "long run" in and Ty was tired and wanted to take a nap. I decided to take Carter out for my run while Ty and Elise napped. We headed to a park we'd only been to once before but Carter loved and  I knew it had a 3 mile loop which I thought was paved. It turned out to be paved for about 70% of the way with the rest being crushed gravel and some thick mud due to all the rain we've had. At one point on the run I actually had to stop and force our front tire out of mud it had sunk down into. It was nice to have Carter with me. The weekend before I ran with Elise in the single stroller while Carter played with Ty at the park. I saw a rabbit and a really neat yellow bird and missed getting to point them out to Carter and see his reaction.
Muddy legs and tire.
I planned our outing to where we'd have time for an hour to play at the park after running before Carter's lunchtime and before Elise woke up hungry again. We played on the equipment and I actually got to play with Carter. I wasn't wearing Elise which limits what I can do or pushing the stroller around with her in it to different sections of the park to watch him. I was climbing ladders, going down slides, playing peek-a-boo, and chasing him with no worries other than his happiness and enjoyment. He chased squirrels, climbed trees, and I pushed him in a swing. I hadn't realized it, but an outing just the two of us turned out to be exactly what we both needed. When we headed home I was the happiest I had been all week and upon our arrival Ty marveled over what a good mood Carter was in. While at the park I missed Elise but then I pictured her at home snuggled on her daddy's chest napping and I knew  she was perfectly content right where she was.

During Carter's nap I took a shower and started reading a book. I haven't read an adult book for myself since the first trimester of pregnancy with Elise. With all the excitement of the summer reading program at the library I decided to sign up for the adult program. It was so nice to read just for me! The whole time I read Elise was snuggled on my chest. Carter woke up early and Ty took him shopping so Elise and I could nap. It was perfect to have some extra alone time with Elise after a morning with Carter.

Something I've found as a mother of 2 is that it's hard to feel like I've had enough quality time with either of my babies because it's rarely one-on-one time. Maybe it's just being new to the whole children rather than child business or maybe I'll always feel that way. All I know is that our one-on-one time this weekend was a little slice of heaven! I know as they get older they'll interact more and will want less mommy time. It will be hard for me but at the same time wonderful. I love to see them together. When Carter woke up from his nap he wanted to come snuggle in bed with me and asked to hold sissy. It melts my heart every time!

  1. I love days like that! I still think that balancing two is harder emotionally than anything else. And I've found that quality time with Liam can usually solve any issues we might be having!

    1. Agreed! If I give Carter 30 minutes of one-on-one time first thing in the morning our day is much smoother.

  2. Was he saying "no pictures" in the last one?

    1. Good guess, that one was "too bright!" because the flash was going!
